Planet UK

The UK arm of Planet, the US satellite company that images the whole Earth every day, with a new central London office opened in July 2026.

About Planet UK

Planet is a company that operates one of the largest fleets of Earth-imaging satellites, and it takes a picture of almost every part of the planet's land every day. Customers use those pictures in farming, forestry, intelligence, education, finance and government, to see how places change over time. Planet describes itself as a leading provider of global daily satellite imagery and geospatial solutions, and has added artificial intelligence tools that help people find what matters in the images without needing to be experts.

Planet's mission, in its own words, is to 'image the world every day, and make change visible, accessible and actionable'. Its co-founder and chief executive, Will Marshall, was born and educated in the UK. Planet says it has worked with UK customers and partners for more than a decade. Its UK advisers include Sir Jeremy Fleming, the former head of GCHQ, and David Miliband, who sit on its European and Defense and Intelligence advisory boards.

In July 2026 Planet opened a London office in Soho, a short walk from Westminster and Whitehall, as a national hub for AI and analytics partnerships. The company says the UK team is more than 30 people covering engineering, data science, sales, customer support, government affairs and marketing, and that it plans to hire more across the country. The UK is the only country outside the United States where Planet has executive leadership living locally; Charlie Candy is chief revenue officer and UK managing director. Planet also uses the Goonhilly Earth Station in Cornwall to receive data from its satellites, and counts England's Rural Payments Agency, the Welsh and Scottish governments and Forest Research among UK public-sector users.

On people and culture, Planet describes working with a range of UK bodies, including UKspace, techUK, the British Association of Remote Sensing Companies (BARSC) and the King's Sustainable Markets Initiative, and with UK technology partners including Earth-i, Esri UK and MapImpact. Those are Planet's claims in its own announcements. We found no staff survey or independent view of the working culture. The UK Space Minister, Liz Lloyd, welcomed the office as a sign of confidence in the UK's science and technology ecosystem.

The roles in Planet's UK team give a good picture of what a space-data company needs: software and data engineers, data scientists, sales and customer support staff, specialists in government and defence work, and marketing and policy people. It shows that a space career does not always mean building rockets; many jobs are about helping organisations turn pictures from space into decisions.
