Playtech

A gambling and gaming software group that builds casino, bingo, sports betting and retail betting technology, with five UK offices including central London.

About Playtech

Playtech designs and licenses the software behind online and in-shop gambling. Its products cover online casino, live dealer games, poker, bingo, sports betting, scratch games and the self-service betting terminals found in shops. It also owns businesses that supply tools for safer gambling, such as BetBuddy, which uses data to spot when a customer may be at risk. Playtech has also grown by buying specialist studios and tools over the years, including Quickspin and YoYo Games, and it supplies governments and regulated agencies as well as private betting firms.

Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi, launched its first casino product in 2001 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. Its legal headquarters are on the Isle of Man. On its UK careers page it states a belief that "everyone should be able to discover things that inspire them". We did not find a separate formal mission statement. Estonia, the Isle of Man and London sit alongside its UK sites in the wider story.

Playtech lists five UK offices. The flagship is in Holborn, central London, which opened in 2019 and houses over 300 people in teams such as Marketing, Account Management, Consultancy, bingo and sports product support, and safer gambling specialists. ECM Systems in Hull builds retail gaming networks and handheld gaming apps, Intelligent Gaming in Manchester builds systems for land-based casinos, and Psiclone Games in Lichfield, part of Playtech since 2014, makes fixed-odds betting software. There is also an office in Ipswich.

The company says it runs social events through the year, including a summer event, a Christmas party, team building and surprise lunches, and works with the mental health charity MIND on wellbeing events. Benefits it lists include 25 days of holiday, private healthcare, a cycle-to-work scheme, a gym membership, sabbatical leave and an enhanced pension. These are the company's own claims, so ask about them when you apply.

Working here is not only for coders. The UK page lists job areas including Development, Software, Quality, Finance, HR, IT, Legal, Sales and Customer Support. Clients named by sources include William Hill, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, so a lot of what you see on high-street and online betting is built by teams like these. The UK careers page also mentions annual on-site health checks and loans for season tickets, which hint at how the company supports people who commute. If you like technology and data, it is a clear way to see how a software business supports an entertainment industry.
