A London app that automatically saves and invests small amounts for you. Founded around 2016 by two friends from Cyprus living in London.
Plum is a money app that saves and invests small amounts for you automatically. Its idea is that you often will not miss a few pounds here and there, so it moves spare money into savings, tracks your spending, helps you find cheaper bills and offers investment options for the money you set aside.
Plum's own blog explains how it began. Two friends from Cyprus, Victor Trokoudes and Alex, both living and working in London in tech, ran a personal savings experiment. Victor studied economics at Harvard, and Alex wrote the program that did the saving. When it worked for them, they decided it could help others, and the blog post from 16 October 2016 says "we started building Plum". The post says Plum had saved users more than £20 million about a year after launch.
Plum says its aim is to help people save and invest more easily. Its more recent news includes an AI tool that uses Google's Gemini to help with money management, a Lifetime ISA product to save for a first home and crypto investing for customers in Ireland.
For young people, Plum is a clear example of a founder-led London fintech that started from a personal problem. We did not find a published graduate or internship scheme, so check its careers page.
