A UK digital home, car and pet insurer, launched in 2011 and now serving more than 1.6 million customers.

About Policy Expert

Policy Expert is a UK insurer for people's homes, cars and pets. Customers can get a quote and buy online, and the company says policies are managed by UK-based experts around the clock. Home cover can include extras such as home emergency, legal expenses and accidental damage, and car cover can add breakdown cover and a replacement vehicle. It trades as part of QMetric Group Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The company launched in 2011 and moved into motor insurance in 2019. Its own page says it is a leading UK personal lines insurer with more than 1.6 million customers, and it was named Buildings Insurance Provider of the Year at the Telegraph Insurance Awards 2025. Its Trustpilot page shows a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from over 90,000 reviews, which is a public review score. We did not find a formal mission statement on the pages we read.

Its registered address is 110 Bishopsgate in the City of London, which a job-site profile also gives as its office. Co-founder Adam Powell is chief operating officer and has been with the company since 2010; before that he led new markets at Simply Business. The chief executive is Steve Hardy. The leadership team also covers claims, compliance and risk, finance, people, customers and commercial work, and growth, which gives a good picture of the kinds of jobs in an insurer. Cinven, a private equity firm, holds a major stake in the company; sources disagree on whether it is 50% or a majority.

Policy Expert describes itself as a business that "loves to get things done". Its listed values, from a careers-guide profile, are expertise, teamwork, caring about people, sticking to principles and getting things done. Its About page says it puts "people at the heart of everything" and aims for a culture of inclusivity. The same profile lists benefits such as pension matching, a learning budget, private medical cover and a wellbeing programme, and reports that 46% of staff are women. These are the company's own claims or reported benefits, so check them with the company.

A profile site puts headcount at 201 to 500 people. Roles in a digital insurer include customer service, claims, pricing and data, software engineering, marketing and compliance. We did not find details of other office locations.
