A US cybersecurity company with UK offices in Reading and elsewhere, protecting people and data from email and online threats.
Proofpoint is a cybersecurity company. Most cyber attacks do not start by cracking a computer; they start by tricking a person, usually with a fake email. Proofpoint builds software that spots those tricks, stops sensitive information leaking out by accident, and teaches people to recognise threats. It says it protects how people, data and AI tools connect across email, cloud and collaboration tools, and that over 80 of the Fortune 100 (the biggest US companies) trust it.
Proofpoint was founded in 2002 by Eric Hahn, who had been chief technology officer of the early web company Netscape, and its first product launched in 2003. Its headquarters is in Sunnyvale, California. It says it has more than 5,000 team members and over 2 million customers, with offices in many countries. In the UK, the roles we found are listed in Reading, Berkshire, with London and Bristol also appearing on job boards. Proofpoint also owns Tessian, a London-founded email-security company whose purchase was announced in November 2023, and the Tessian name still appears on job listings, including a placement-year listing based in Belfast.
Proofpoint describes what it does as protecting employees, data and brand from advanced threats and compliance risks. Its stated mission is to "safeguard the digital world and empower people to work securely and confidently." Its BRAVE values are Bold, Responsive, Accountable, Visionary and Exceptional. Its company page puts weight on customer focus, claiming a customer satisfaction rate above 95%. These are the company's own claims.
Its products fall into a few groups. Collaboration security covers email protection, email fraud defence and security awareness training. Data security covers data loss prevention (tools that stop confidential files leaving a company by mistake) and insider threat management. A newer area is AI security, which controls how staff and AI agents use AI tools. Its platform is called Nexus and uses AI to detect threats. Proofpoint says it blocks over 99% of attacks and analyses billions of emails; these figures are its own.
The UK roles we found were mainly sales and account management for experienced hires, and the company lists a flexible work environment plus wellness and community outreach days. We found no UK graduate scheme. The closest early-career listing was a Tessian-branded product management placement year for 2026 in Belfast, now closed. It asked for problem-solving, clear communication, organisation and curiosity about customers, and did not require you to be a software engineer. Pay and length were not stated.
