About Proxima

Proxima is a specialist procurement consultancy. Procurement is the work of deciding what an organisation buys, from whom, and at what price, and it can make a big difference to how well a business or public body runs. Proxima works with ambitious organisations to change how they spend, source and manage suppliers, with services that include cost optimisation, procurement transformation, supply chain sustainability and decarbonisation, and risk management. Its clients range from some of the world's largest businesses to fast-growing smaller ones, in sectors such as aviation, government, manufacturing and banking.

Proxima was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in London. In May 2022 the consulting firm Bain & Company announced that it had acquired Proxima, which continues to operate independently as part of Bain's specialist procurement implementation service line. Its stated purpose is to make far-reaching and meaningful procurement change happen for its clients, and on its recruitment pages it talks about driving purposeful and profitable change: it says it does not just advise clients but delivers change. An initiative called Proxima with Purpose guides its work on diversity, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and science-based climate targets.

In the UK, Proxima's head office is in London, and its recruitment pages list offices in London, Leeds and Cardiff, as well as Dusseldorf, Chicago, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Melbourne. It works with clients in the UK, Europe and the United States. Its working model is hybrid, mixing client sites, home and the local office, with travel when the project needs it.

Proxima describes its culture as inclusive, supportive and ambitious, with a flat structure that encourages collaboration and early responsibility. It says its people are central to its success and talks of a friendly, open and high-performing team, and of being a responsible business that cares about wellbeing, sustainability and social responsibility. It points to training and development, a clear route to progress and exposure to a wide range of clients. These are the company's own claims. Its work has also been recognised in the Financial Times leading management consultants list and by Forbes, as reported by Bain.

The consultants at Proxima do practical work: they support category management and sourcing, research suppliers, analyse data in spreadsheets to find where value or risk lies, track benefits, and run workshops with clients. Roles also exist for client managers who look after relationships. If you like maths, problem solving and talking to people, procurement consulting is a field that rewards all three, and it shows how the money organisations spend ends up shaping supply chains around the world.
