About PwC

PwC is one of the Big Four accounting firms. In the UK it helps organisations with audit (independent checks of company accounts), tax, consulting and advice on deals and risk. Wikipedia describes three broad areas: assurance (audits), advisory (consulting and related work) and tax and legal services. PwC's UK careers pages also list work in strategy and in technology and AI.

The firm's roots go back to 1849 (Samuel Lowell Price) and 1854 (William Cooper) in London. Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand merged in 1998 to form PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the name was shortened to PwC in 2010. The global network is coordinated from London, and Wikipedia reports more than 370,000 people worldwide. PwC's careers page links to a UK offices section but does not list them in the page we read, and we could not find a verified UK-only headcount.

PwC says its purpose is "to build trust in society and solve important problems." Its five shared values are Act with integrity, Make a difference, Care, Work together and Reimagine the possible. PwC UK says it is focusing on four culture priorities: being inspiring, curious, collaborative and clear. These are the firm's own words.

For young people, PwC runs a wide set of routes. School and college leaver roles are for students finishing Year 13 in England and Wales, Year 14 in Northern Ireland or S6 in Scotland. Flying Start degree programmes let you earn a salary while studying for a degree, applied for through UCAS. The Flying Start Accounting route is a four-year BSc in Accounting and Business with university partners in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Reading, with a work placement term each year, and aims to put you on track to become an ICAEW Chartered Accountant, with about 85% of the ICAEW exams completed by the end of the course. The listing gives pay as "competitive + benefits", and says some students starting in autumn 2027 who meet income and school criteria could receive a £10,000 bursary spread over four years. Entry is open to school and college leavers and career changers.

There is also a Virtual Insight Programme for younger pupils and New World. New Skills, a paid work experience programme for Year 12 students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds (it ran 3 to 6 August 2026). Undergraduates can apply for summer internships and work placements of six to eight weeks, a legal summer vacation scheme, and three-day paid diversity programmes. Graduate roles are in advisory and consulting, audit, accounting, tax and finance, legal services, strategy, and technology and AI. PwC allows one application per cycle for its 2026 programmes. Entry requirements vary, and graduate programmes generally expect a strong academic record, so check PwC's own careers site for current dates and requirements.
