About Quod

Quod is an independent consultancy that helps people deliver development. Its website says it works in infrastructure, strategic, living and commercial sectors, and cites expertise in planning, economics and environmental consultancy. In practice that means advising on whether and how big projects can go ahead, such as the Heathrow expansion, the Lewisham shopping centre, Gilston Park Estate, Vanguard Logistics Park, North Quay in Canary Wharf and Bromley by Bow Gasworks, all of which it names as featured projects. Its press release on a northern office also mentions advice on the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds and a GSK pharmaceutical development at Ulverston.

The company expresses its aims as being "dedicated to achieving your ambitions", "if it matters to you, it matters to us", and "we're all in". It says it puts weight on engaging with communities, stakeholders and decision makers, and takes a commercial approach, with experts who "take every project personally". Its northern office announcement describes its approach as "commercially aware advice" on planning, affordable housing, socio-economic and environmental issues that affect the quality and success of development. We did not find a founding year on the pages read.

On the UK map, Quod has a central Leeds office, Quod North, which it opened as part of an expansion and which is led by Tim Waring, who has 25 years' planning experience including more than 15 in the Leeds region. A local business press report later describes the Leeds office as having completed its first successful year and gaining a new director. It also has London contact details (020 numbers). The homepage did not list offices, so there may be others.

On culture, the homepage says its staff are "among the best in the industry", which is a company claim. It shows a Living Wage Employer logo and the logos of professional bodies including RICS, the RTPI, the Royal Town Planning Institute, the NLA, and quality certifications ISO 9001 and 14001. It also appears to have acquired a firm, Hunt Dobson Stringer, according to its news page title. The press release names Peter Hall as an associate and Hannah Smith as a senior planner.

The jobs at a firm like Quod include planners, economists, environmental consultants, communications and engagement advisers and support teams. Strong subjects for these roles include geography, economics, planning, environmental science and surveying. The professional bodies named on its site suggest that staff work towards chartered status, a recognised badge of expertise in planning and surveying.
