About Rimmel London

Rimmel London is a makeup brand. It sells mascara, eye products, lip colours, foundations and other cosmetics at prices aimed at a wide range of customers, in pharmacies and supermarkets in many countries. It is also known as a brand where the word "rimmel" has become a term for mascara in several languages. The brand's own words are that makeup is a way to express yourself, and it describes London as its "playground".

The story starts in London. In 1820 a French perfumer took charge of a perfumery on Bond Street, and in 1834 he and his 14-year-old son Eugene opened their own, creating the House of Rimmel. Eugene Rimmel made fragranced pomades and mouth rinses, and he is credited with creating a safer, more affordable mascara. The company was registered in 1889, and after Eugene died in 1890 his sons expanded the colour range. After the Second World War, Robert and Rose Caplin bought it and brought in a self-selection display, an early form of modern shop shelves. Coty acquired the brand in 1996. We could not find a mention of Rimmel's past factory sites from the pages we read.

Wikipedia describes the brand as headquartered in London, with its motto "Get the London Look". We did not find a UK address, office list or UK headcount in the pages we read, so it is best to treat the exact location of Rimmel's UK teams as unconfirmed. Coty, which owns Rimmel, is a large beauty group with its own UK business, and brand teams for a UK-born label like this would be expected to sit within it.

The brand lists several values on its website: Dare to Experiment, True To You, Live It London, Find Your Edge and I Will Not Be Deleted. The last is a campaign against beauty cyberbullying, run with the Cybersmile Foundation. Rimmel says it does not test on animals and holds Leaping Bunny approval, and it is not sold in markets that require animal testing. Past brand ambassadors include Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Adwoa Aboah, Tom Daley and Maya Jama. In the UK, advertising featuring Kate Moss and Georgia May Jagger was banned after the Advertising Standards Authority found it misleading because the images used false lashes, a reminder that makeup marketing is tightly regulated.

A mass-market makeup brand needs lots of different people. There are product developers and chemists, packaging designers, marketing and social media teams, brand managers, buyers who deal with supermarkets and pharmacies, regulatory and safety specialists, and sales and finance staff. If you like science, creativity or understanding what shoppers want, there is likely a role in that mix. The best step is to look at the brand's and Coty's own websites for live roles.
