Roland Berger

A European strategy consultancy with a London office that recruits Junior Consultants from universities.

About Roland Berger

Roland Berger is a strategy consultancy. Companies and governments hire its consultants to work out how to tackle big challenges, such as reorganising a business, entering a new market, cutting costs or becoming more sustainable, and then to plan how to do it. Its work covers many industries and areas, including corporate performance, mergers and acquisitions, operations, restructuring and turnaround, sustainability and digital, and industries such as automotive, financial services, energy and utilities and the public sector.

The firm was founded in 1967 in Munich, Germany by Roland Berger, who was 29, as Roland Berger International Marketing Consultants; it began with two people, Berger and his assistant. An early breakthrough was helping merge four tourism companies into the tour operator TUI, and by 1973 it was Germany's third-largest consultancy. It then opened offices across Europe, South America and Asia, and in the 1990s it became a partnership with a global leadership team. Today it describes itself as an independent partnership, still headquartered in Munich, led by Senior Partner and Global Managing Partner Stefan Schaible. It has a London office, which recruits graduates and interns.

Its stated approach is to give impartial, objective advice with integrity, creativity and vision, and to favour a long-term, inclusive and sustainable way of thinking over short-term gains. Its listed core values are entrepreneurship, excellence and empathy, and it says it cherishes different perspectives and approaches and values diversity and authenticity. It says it keeps an entrepreneurial, start-up mentality.

Its work is organised around cross-competence teams, which means people from different industry and function specialisms working together on client problems. It publishes regular studies and thought-leadership pieces, and it appears in the Platinum tier of the 2026 Consultancy.uk UK ranking.

The firm describes active mentoring and training and says new hires work on client projects from the start (its own claim). The UK careers page lists routes in Consulting (graduate hire, internship, experienced hire, MBA) and in Corporate Functions (graduate and internship). As at 2026, the graduate round for the September 2027 intake opened on 1 September 2026 and closed on 18 October 2026, with a CV and a cover letter. A Junior Consultant Summer Internship 2027 in London is also listed, and the Summer 2026 internship round closed on 1 February 2026. In the earlier Junior Consultant 2026 listing, the firm asked for a 2:1 or above, strong English, and ideally a consulting-type internship; all degree subjects were welcome and STEM was encouraged (as at 2025). Pay was not listed.
