Samsung Research UK (Samsung AI Centre, Cambridge)

The UK research arm of Samsung Electronics, including the Samsung AI Centre in Cambridge, which does fundamental and user-focused AI research.

About Samsung Research UK (Samsung AI Centre, Cambridge)

Samsung Electronics is a global maker of phones, TVs and chips. In the UK its research teams include the Samsung AI Centre, Cambridge, which studies fundamental AI and AI that understands people, for example recognising emotion.

We did not find a mission statement for the Cambridge centre. When it opened in 2018 it was described as part of a wider global network of Samsung AI research sites, designed to work closely with UK universities.

The centre is in Cambridge and was chaired at launch by Professor Andrew Blake, a computer vision pioneer and former director of Microsoft's Cambridge laboratory. Samsung said it had been in the UK market for over 20 years and planned to grow its UK R&D staff, including AI experts, from 250 to 400.

The sources we read say little about day-to-day culture. They stress a research-led setting linked to the University of Cambridge and the wider academic community.

We found no sourced graduate scheme or internship at the Cambridge centre. Research roles are likely to ask for postgraduate study, so check Samsung's UK careers pages for current entry routes.
