A UK architecture and design practice founded in 1910, with studios in London, Guildford, Edinburgh and Cardiff, working on science, workplace, education and transport projects.
Scott Brownrigg is an architecture and design practice that says it is among the UK's top 20 and the world's top 100 practices. Its services include architecture, interior design, masterplanning and urbanism, workplace strategy, technical advice, retrofit and design management. It works across sectors such as advanced technologies, business space, culture, media and sport, defence and security, education, hospitality, life sciences, aviation and rail, and residential and mixed use. Its past projects include Heathrow Terminal 4, Manchester Airport Terminal 2, BBC White City One, the UK Joint Forces Headquarters at Northwood, Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff and the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport.
The practice began in 1910, when Annesley Harold Brownrigg won a series of competitions and set up his studio in Haslemere, Surrey. The Guildford practice grew with Leslie Hiscock from 1918, and after Brownrigg's death in 1935 his son John took over. It merged with Duncan Scott's Guildford practice in 1958 to become Scott Brownrigg and Turner, and it later took on Keppie Henderson (1989), Design Research Unit (2004) and GMW Architects (2015). It celebrated 115 years in 2025 with a book, Architecture + Progression, and an exhibition at the Building Centre in London. Its own description is of a forward-thinking, boundary-pushing approach and a commitment to design excellence.
Its UK studios are in London, Guildford, Edinburgh and Cardiff, according to its own page, and Wikipedia says the head office is in London. The practice has further studios abroad, including New York, Singapore and Riyadh. Wikipedia gives its size as about 280 staff, up from 168 after the GMW acquisition in 2015, though that figure may be dated. Darren Comber is named as chief executive.
On culture, the practice's own navigation lists pages on its heritage, its responsibility, being employee owned, life at the practice, a Future Talent Programme and Studio Voices, but we could not read their contents, so we cannot say what they claim. Wikipedia does not mention employee ownership, while the company page does link to an "Employee Owned" page, so the ownership model should be confirmed on its website. The practice also has related units, the Digital Twin Unit and Crown Architecture.
Jobs at a practice like this include architects, architectural assistants, interior designers, masterplanners, workplace strategists, technologists, digital modellers, project managers and business support staff. Its mix of science parks, schools, defence and transport projects means it appeals to many interests. The practice's website is the place to check current openings.
