About Sega Europe

Sega Europe is the European arm of the Japanese games company Sega, the maker of Sonic the Hedgehog. It publishes and markets Sega games across Europe and sits above a group of studios that make games for consoles, computers and phones.

Sega Europe describes itself as a group focused on "entertaining the world with creative, innovative experiences" within a gaming community. A careers profile says its culture stresses staff voice, an entrepreneurial mindset and collaboration, with colleagues on first-name terms. That is the company's own description, so ask about it at interview.

Its main office is in west London. A job profile lists headquarters in Brentford, and in May 2025 Time Extension reported that Sega had moved to a new office in Chiswick Business Park after about 20 years next to Brentford Football Club. The new space has chill zones, ping-pong tables and a digital gallery, and the restored Sonic statue from SegaWorld London stands inside. The UK studios include Creative Assembly in Horsham, Hardlight in Leamington Spa and Sports Interactive. The same profile also names Two Point Studios, Amplitude Studios and Rovio Entertainment among the group's studios across the UK, Europe and Canada.

A job profile lists 316 employees. Staff-led groups include DEN (disability), RISE (inclusion and equality), Women at SEGA, PRIDE, SEGA Minds (mental health), Momiji (Japanese heritage and culture) and VIBE (social and engagement). Sega says these exist to support staff.

Hardlight, the mobile studio, was integrated into Sega Europe in 2019 and made Sonic Dash, which passed 350 million downloads by 2020. People in Sega Europe work in publishing, marketing, production, community and studio roles. Current openings are on Sega's careers site. Hardlight began in Dorridge, Solihull, and moved to Leamington Spa around 2012 partly because the town has a cluster of game developers. It was founded by Chris Southall, and Neall Jones, whose earlier jobs included Codemasters, Traveller's Tales and Eidos, became studio director in 2019. Its output has included Sonic Jump, Sonic Dash and ports of Yakuza 0 and Valkyria Chronicles 4. In 2019 Hardlight was integrated into Sega Europe as one of five "pillars", keeping its focus on mobile games, and the Sega Europe profile lists Sports Interactive and Two Point Studios among the other studios in the group.
