The company that runs the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria, one of the UK's largest clean-up and engineering projects, with hundreds of apprentices and graduates each year.
Sellafield Ltd is part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority group and works on the safe clean-up of the UK's oldest nuclear sites. A government article describes Sellafield as the UK's largest and most complex nuclear site, with a "100-year clean-up work" ahead. Jobs include engineering, science, project management, health physics, pipefitting and business roles.
We did not find a formal values statement. Its chief executive said it offers "long-term career opportunities in such an innovative and cutting edge industry", and an NDA leader tied the intake to delivering the NDA's mission.
The main site is in West Cumbria. Trainees are supported by Lakes College, the University of Cumbria and other providers, and Warrington-based trainees train at Wigan and Leigh College.
We did not find independent culture information, so ask current apprentices and graduates what daily work is like.
In September 2024 the government reported that up to 300 vocational and degree apprentices and 150 graduates were expected to join that year. Apprentice routes include pipefitting, health physics monitoring, nuclear operatives, business administration and electrical and mechanical engineering; graduate areas are engineering, science, project management and business. A 2025 graduate programme listing described a two-year development scheme with six tracks (design engineering, management, safety, science and maths, site engineering, and business and finance), which could lead to a permanent contract. Pay and entry requirements were not stated. Nuclear roles usually involve security vetting, so check the vacancy.
