A West Midlands metal-pressing and assembly manufacturer that makes steel and aluminium parts, mainly for the automotive industry, from four UK sites.

About Sertec Group

Sertec is a manufacturer of pressed metal parts and assemblies, mostly in steel and aluminium. Pressing means using huge machines to stamp flat metal sheet into shapes, such as the structural pieces that sit inside a vehicle. Sertec then joins those pieces together by robotic and manual welding and by riveting to make assemblies. It has also built skills in busbars (metal bars that carry electricity) and in battery case assemblies for electric vehicles. It makes parts rather than vehicles, so the people who work there are engineers, press operators, welders, quality inspectors and many other trades.

The business began in 1962 as an engineering company that mainly made press tooling, the metal dies that shape parts, for the car industry. The founding Mosedale family stepped back in 2016, according to a 2016 trade article. Its stated vision, in a December 2024 article, is "to be the leading provider of sustainable engineering solutions". In 2016 the managing director, Dave Steggles, said that the company's main competitive edge "remains as it always has been on our people". That is a statement from the company, not something we have tested.

Sertec is based in the West Midlands. The 2016 article describes two factories in Coleshill plus sites in Aston, Saltley and Tyseley in Birmingham. The December 2024 article describes six locations worldwide: four UK manufacturing sites, a site in Aszar in Hungary and a tooling technical centre in Dongguan, China. The company's new 800-tonne press, part of a £7 million investment, was unveiled at its Gorsey Lane facility in Coleshill after an 18-month project and became fully operational in December 2024. The Companies House register shows Sertec Group Holdings Limited as a UK company.

On people, the December 2024 article says Sertec had over 1,200 employees and expected the new press to create 15 positions. In 2016 it ran a Sertec Learning Academy, which trained new and existing staff, including people with no manufacturing experience. We have not confirmed that the Academy still runs in that form. In 2024 it was named Company of the Year by the Confederation of British Metalforming, and it won the Smart Factory award at The Manufacturer MX Awards, according to the same article. Professor Carl Chinn MBE officiated at the unveiling and received the first part pressed on the new machine.

Roles at a company like this cover design and tooling engineering, press and welding operation, automation and robotics, maintenance, quality, logistics and the usual business teams such as finance, HR and purchasing. If you enjoy maths, design and technology, physics or hands-on making, this is a place where those subjects turn into physical parts. The company says its engineering department works with customers on tailored, sustainable solutions, from first design ideas through to prototypes.
