About Simmer Eats

Simmer Eats, usually called Simmer, is a UK meal delivery business. Customers subscribe and receive chef-style, high-protein, ready-to-heat meals at home, in different portion sizes with the macros listed. Its signature dish is the OG Jerk Chicken, served with plantain, rice, peas and homemade jerk sauce, which has been on the menu since the very beginning. It says it has sold more than a million meals and delivers across the UK.

Simmer says it wants to take the stress out of cooking and make healthy eating effortless by delivering fresh, tasty, protein-rich meals to the door. Its meals are made from scratch with fresh ingredients and a globally inspired, home-style approach, and the founders describe a guiding idea of doing more with less. The company's story is built around family, flavour and hard work, and the founders say healthy eating should not mean giving up taste.

The story begins in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Simmy Dhillon began cooking in his university halls kitchen in 2017 with about 10 pounds of ingredients, selling meals and reinvesting what he made. His brother Jhai, a former professional footballer, drew on the nutrition plan from his academy days to shape the menu, and their mum Kal cooked early meals and was the first employee. The business was first called Rice n Spice before becoming Simmer Eats. FEBE lists it as based in Hertfordshire, and it later built a commercial kitchen from scratch. The founders say they have never taken outside investment.

The culture is described as a close-knit, family-run business with a British Asian underdog story. In one interview the founders said their remote office team grew from six to eight people in a year while the business grew about twenty times, with short, frank debates and flexible days that can include a midday walk or gym session. Escape the City's profile lists perks such as remote working, team trips, free breakfast and lunch, and 25 to 30 days of holiday, which are claims to check with the company. The founders collected an Outstanding Achievement Award at the Sunday Times 100 Awards, and Simmy was named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list in 2023.

A fresh food business relies on people in kitchens and production, packing and logistics, customer service, social media and marketing, and finance. The team and premises have changed quickly, so check the Simmer Eats website and social channels for the current set-up and vacancies.
