A UK managed detection and response provider that watches customers' systems around the clock.
Socura is a UK cybersecurity company that acts as an outsourced security team for other organisations. Its main service is called managed detection and response, or MDR. In plain English, Socura's analysts watch a customer's computers, networks and cloud systems all day and night, look for signs that criminals have got in, and step in quickly to stop the attack spreading. Socura's own website says it "reduces cyber risk by proactively detecting and responding to threats, 24/7".
Socura's launch announcement names Marc Chang as CEO and Founder and Jamie Brummell as Co-Founder and CTO (chief technology officer). A 2022 profile by MSSP Alert, a trade publication, says the company was founded in 2019 and was founded in London, with 16 full-time staff at that point. Socura's website now describes it as based in Cardiff, Wales, and as cloud-first. By 2025 Andy Kays was CEO, and he was named a "One to Watch" in the LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders list. The CREST listing we read earlier puts the team at 10 to 49 people, so it is a small company where individual people can make a visible difference.
Socura's launch announcement says it wants to improve digital safety for people and organisations, using a "dynamic, innovative, and human-centred" approach. In 2025 it described itself as bringing "the power of calm" to organisations, giving teams clarity, control and confidence when things go wrong. These are the company's own words.
Socura works with technology from partners including Palo Alto Networks, Google (its Chronicle security platform) and Microsoft (Defender and Sentinel). Its customers include NHS trusts, councils and private companies in areas such as finance, manufacturing and construction. Its biggest public project is CymruSOC, announced on 10 May 2024 by the Welsh government and Merthyr Tydfil Council. A SOC, or security operations centre, is a control room for spotting cyber attacks. Wales describes CymruSOC as the UK's first national SOC. Socura runs it under an initial three-year contract, working from Merthyr Tydfil, and it aims to protect around 60,000 public sector workers. Socura also holds CREST accreditation (since August 2021, per MSSP Alert), ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, and claims a customer satisfaction score of 86, which is the company's own figure.
For work and training, the clearest evidence is a SOC Analyst job advertised on a Welsh jobs board for Socura in Cardiff. It was listed as fully remote and permanent at £25,000 a year (the listing is undated, so check the current pay). The analyst role involves looking at network and device activity, deciding which alerts are real attacks, hunting for hidden threats, writing detection rules and talking to customers, on a shift rota that covers nights and weekends. Security certificates such as CompTIA or GIAC were a plus rather than a must, and the advert said Welsh was essential. Benefits listed included private medical cover, a 5% matched pension, birthday leave and team socials, though these are the advert's claims. We found no formal graduate scheme or apprenticeship page, so check Socura's website and Welsh jobs boards for current openings.
