Solve Intelligence

A UK-based AI company whose browser platform helps patent professionals draft and manage patent applications.

About Solve Intelligence

Solve Intelligence makes AI software for patent work. A patent is a legal right that stops others copying a new invention, and writing one is slow, detailed work. Solve Intelligence gives inventors and patent lawyers a browser-based editor, powered by AI, that helps with drafting, filing, responding to patent offices (prosecution), comparing claims against other patents (claim charting), opposition and litigation. Its site describes it as 'the AI platform for helping legal professionals with every part of the patent process'.

It was founded in 2023 and is based in London. The founders listed on its Y Combinator profile are Chris Parsonson (the CEO), Angus Parsonson and Sanj Ahilan. Y Combinator is a well-known programme that supports young technology companies, and the company was in its summer 2023 group. A World IP Review feature from December 2023 describes the founders as three software engineers who launched a patent-writing tool that summer. The profile gives a team size of about 50.

Its stated goal is 'To leverage and build on recent AI breakthroughs to transform the patenting process'. It also describes its ambition as building 'a generational AI company'; both are the company's own words.

The company says it sells to over 700 IP firms and in-house teams across the US, Europe and Asia, and names customers including DLA Piper, Siemens, Perkins Coie and Amgen. These are its own claims. Its products cover patent drafting, prosecution, claim charting and invention disclosure, which is how an inventor first describes an idea to their legal team.

At the time we looked, its Y Combinator jobs page listed 21 roles. Most were in London, with some in New York and Munich. They included AI, full-stack, infrastructure and data engineers, sales and customer support roles, an events lead, a motion designer and 'legal and product' roles for people with patent backgrounds, such as patent litigators and former patent examiners. It describes itself as fast-moving and invites applicants to 'come join the rocket ship', which is its own framing and suggests a busy startup pace. Job listings are marked in-office. We found no graduate scheme or apprenticeship, although some roles say they suit people with little experience, and the pages we read did not describe benefits.
