A UK private hospital group with 38 hospitals across England, Scotland and Wales and one of the largest nurse degree apprenticeship programmes in England.
Spire Healthcare runs private hospitals and clinics across England, Scotland and Wales. Patients can pay privately, use health insurance or be treated on behalf of the NHS, and specialist doctors called consultants work alongside Spire's own nurses, therapists and support teams.
Spire gives its purpose as "Making a positive difference to people's lives, through outstanding personalised care." Its values include driving clinical excellence, doing the right thing, caring is our passion, keeping it simple, delivering on our promises, and succeeding and celebrating together.
Its recruitment page lists 38 hospitals, and its news page lists 37 in regional menus, so the exact count varies by page. The group also has clinics and works with more than 8,800 self-employed consultants. Hospitals are spread across the UK, so you can often train close to home.
Spire says 82% of its colleagues feel included and valued. That is the company's own figure, so ask current staff what it is like on the ward or in theatre.
Spire has run apprenticeships since 2017. A February 2025 news release says 117 colleagues graduated from the 2024 programme and 340 were enrolled, about two thirds in clinical roles. Routes include degree apprenticeships in nursing, biomedical science, physiotherapy and pharmacy, and non-clinical roles. One page gives a starting salary of about £21,000, depending on experience (as at 2025). One featured apprentice began as a healthcare assistant, so starting in a support role can be a way in.
