SSE

A UK-based energy company in renewables, electricity networks and energy markets, running graduate programmes, apprenticeships and summer placements across the UK and Ireland.

About SSE

SSE describes itself as the UK and Ireland's clean energy business. Its early careers roles span engineering, project management, IT, energy markets, finance, land, consents and environment, business and commercial, and risk and assurance.

SSE's early careers page is headed "Change your world, and ours" and presents the programmes as a way to help deliver the energy transition and a cleaner, more sustainable future. Its graduate development page talks about wanting to "power change".

SSE says graduate roles are available across the UK and Ireland. Its pages we read did not name offices. SSEN Transmission, part of the group, has its own UK placements and graduate programmes page.

SSE describes a friendly, supportive environment with training, progression and wellbeing support, and a "Flexible First" way of working. It shows Living Wage Employer, Living Hours Employer and Young Person's Guarantee logos. These are SSE's own claims.

SSE lists graduate programmes, apprenticeships and trainee engineering programmes (open to school leavers, many with no minimum grade requirements), and summer placements for undergraduates. Engineering, IT and land and consents graduate programmes last two years, and finance lasts three. IT has four six-month placements. Selection has four stages: online application, online tests, video interview and an in-person assessment. We found no pay figures, and the pages said graduate applications were closed with new ones expected later (page dates unclear; one banner referred to 2025).
