About Stäubli UK

Stäubli UK is the British business of the Swiss group Stäubli, which works in what it calls mechatronics, meaning the combination of mechanics, electronics and software. In the UK it has four divisions: Robotics, with 4-axis SCARA robots and 6-axis robots plus controllers and software; Fluid Connectors, with quick-connection systems and tool changers; Electrical Connectors, for power, rail, testing and solar; and Textile, which supplies machines such as Jacquard weaving equipment. Its robots are used in sectors such as car manufacture, pharmaceuticals, plastics and food.

The UK page has no formal mission statement. Its nearest statement of purpose is the line "Local support is key to the Stäubli philosophy". This fits the way the business is organised: sales and technical engineers across the UK and Ireland, standard and tailored training courses, and a 24 hour a day robot service that the page says has been offered in the UK since 1994.

The UK story is long. Stäubli set up in Haslingden, Lancashire, in 1979 for textile and fluid connector products. In 1989 it formed Stäubli Unimation in Telford for robots, and in 2003 the textile, connector and robot businesses were merged in the UK. It moved to Hortonwood in Telford in 2005, merged with Stäubli Electrical Connectors in 2021, and its southern base moved to Northampton in 2025. It also has a Bury office for textile service. A trade report on the Telford move said the new building gave 50 percent more space, with solar panels, an interactive showroom and robot demonstration cells where customers can test their planned automation.

The company said that its workforce was growing and that it valued the skills of the Telford workforce, having been there for 25 years at the time of the report. We found no further culture material. The demonstration cells suggest a practical culture in which engineers work directly with customers to optimise cycle times, which means how quickly a robot completes a task.

Careers at a company like this include robotics application engineers, sales engineers, service engineers, trainers, and people in connector and textile support. The company's mix of products means someone could work on a drug-discovery robot one week and a power-connector for a railway the next. If you are curious about engineering, electronics or computing, it offers a wide view of how different industries use automation.
