Stride Treglown is an architecture practice that describes itself as an employee-owned architectural practice and a Certified B Corporation. It works in civic, commercial, education, healthcare, infrastructure, residential and hospitality sectors, and offers related services including interiors, landscape, planning, building surveying, urban design, graphic design and sustainability advice. Award-winning projects named in a 2015 announcement include the regeneration of Heartlands in Cornwall, the transformation of Wiltshire County Hall and the Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay.
The practice dates from 1953, so it is more than 70 years old, and in 2015 it described a 60-year history. It moved from a traditional partnership to an employee-owned company so that all staff hold a share, and says staff can influence the practice's direction. Its values, as listed by Architecture Social, are Better Places, Empowered People and Resilient Partnerships. The 2015 announcement gave no formal mission statement, but it did say the practice aimed for another 60 years of high-quality work for clients.
Stride Treglown's UK footprint is wide. Architecture Social lists nine UK studios in Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Plymouth, Truro and Winchester, with Bristol as the primary studio. A 2015 announcement described nine offices across the UK and the UAE, with the head office in Bristol, so the list may have changed over time. The same sources give about 280 staff in 2015 and over 300 more recently, and the practice was then called the 10th largest in the UK.
On culture, the practice says it emphasises creative freedom, professional development through technical training, coaching and mentoring, and hybrid, agile and flexible working. It says it was the first UK organisation to achieve Excellence in all categories of the Workplace Wellbeing Charter, in 2015. These are the company's own claims and the 2015 date means they are not recent. Its B Corp certification is listed at the B Corporation directory, which we could not open.
Roles at the practice include architects, architectural assistants, technologists, interior designers, landscape architects, planners, sustainability specialists, building surveyors, graphic designers and the business teams that support them.
