A UK estate agency and land-management firm, founded in London in 1885, with more than 50 offices selling homes, managing estates and advising on land.
Strutt and Parker describes itself as one of the UK's leading independent estate agencies. Its work divides into property and land. On the property side it covers buying and selling, renting, letting and management, private client work, new homes, buying advice, mortgage and financial advice, and valuations. On the land side it covers estate and land management, farming, energy and natural capital, which means the value of the natural environment such as woodland and soil. Historically it also did commercial agency, development, building surveying and planning.
The firm was founded by two friends, Edward Gerald Strutt and Charles Alfred Parker, who opened their first office in Finsbury Circus, London, in 1885. Edward Strutt advised the Board of Agriculture during the First World War, and during the Second World War the firm managed requisitioned land and estates. Later mergers with Lofts and Warner and with Lane Fox grew its reach, and it opened offices in Cambridge and Oxford. Buying the forestry firm John Clegg and Co made it a leader in forestry. It also became the UK affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate and manages Highclere Castle.
Its pages give no mission or values statement, so we have not invented one. The nearest self-description is that it is one of the UK's leading independent estate agencies.
Strutt and Parker says it now has more than 50 offices across the UK. Its history page names recent expansion sites including Canterbury, Chelmsford, Cheltenham, Chester, Exeter, Edinburgh, Grantham, Harrogate, Ipswich, Norwich and Salisbury. The firm merged with the property arm of the French bank BNP Paribas in 2017, which was reported by industry press, and the same press has reported that the owner was considering a sale of the estate agency. We could not confirm its current ownership, so check this before relying on it.
It says it has grown to more than 800 staff, and its history page names recent leadership appointments including Gary Higgins as Managing Director, Kate Moisson as Head of Rural, Claire Reynolds as Head of UK Sales and Tamerah Couchman as Head of Marketing and Client Experience. The mix of town and country work means jobs include sales and lettings negotiators, rural and farm advisers, foresters and land managers, valuers, mortgage advisers, and marketing and administrative teams. Geography, maths, business studies and the sciences all help.
