A Brighton games development studio, part of Keywords Studios, working on big console action games for major publishers.

About Studio Gobo

Studio Gobo is a games development studio in Brighton and Hove on the south coast of England. It helps large publishers and studios make big console action games, offering co-development (working alongside the main team) and full development of a game from start to finish. Its teams cover production, code, research and development, art, animation, design, audio and testing. The Keywords page calls Brighton and Hove "the digital hub" and says the team is driven and ambitious.

The studio lists projects including Redfall, Hogwarts Legacy, For Honor and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Its clients include Guerrilla Games, Arkane, Warner Bros, Ubisoft, Disney and Tencent. A graduate-employer profile says it aims to give everyone on the team "a challenging and rewarding experience". The Workable page names Redfall, Hogwarts Legacy, For Honor and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as projects.

On its own pages, Studio Gobo describes its approach as collaborative, sharing ideas and feedback across different jobs, and says it looks for "passionate, enthusiastic people who want to make a difference". A graduate-careers profile talks about working with "the brightest minds on the biggest franchises". These are the company's own words, so treat them as claims to ask about.

The studio is part of Keywords Studios, a large international games services group, and is listed on that group's website among its studios. It describes Brighton and Hove as a digital hub. A press release has named Xu Xiaojun as a new head of studio, though we did not read the details. We did not find its founding year or founders. A press listing mentions the studio opened a second Brighton branch for mobile games years ago, led by a former Exient developer, Jon Gibson, though it may no longer operate that way.

The job types are those you would expect in a big studio: programmers, artists, animators, designers, audio specialists, producers and test staff. Its careers page said it welcomed speculative applications when we looked, and it shows that a studio can work on famous games without being a household name. A good way to prepare is to learn a game engine, build a small portfolio of art, animation or code, and look at the credits of big games to see how many studios help make one. Working on parts of famous games is common for studios of this type, and the skills transfer between projects.
