A London-based insurance broker, formerly Digital Risks, that sells business insurance to small firms online and through advised brokers.
Superscript is a London-based insurance broker for small and growing businesses. Businesses can buy cover online themselves, or work with an advised team of specialist brokers if their needs are new, complex or fast-growing, including technology companies. Typical covers include public liability, employers' liability, professional indemnity, cyber, landlord and product liability. It also builds bespoke cover for partner brands. It is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Its website says it is "on a mission to make business insurance work as hard for you as you do, for your business". Its manifesto, reported by Insurance Times, talks about insurance that is "Effortless. Fair. Inspired by you." and the chief executive has said every business, "from micro to multinational", should be able to get the right cover made to suit its needs. The company says it uses data, analysis and technology to assess and price that cover.
Superscript was founded in 2015 as Digital Risks by Cameron Shearer, now chief executive, and Ben Rose, now chief underwriting officer. It changed its name in 2020 because, in Shearer's words, "we've outgrown Digital Risks". It describes itself as the first UK-based insurtech to become a Lloyd's of London broker. A business directory lists its London office at 16 Eastcheap, EC3M 1BD, and gives a headcount of about 141 people. A 2020 article put the team at 50, so it has grown a good deal since. Its legal pages name Enro Limited, registered in England and Wales, and a Dutch advisory company.
The team mixes brokers, who talk to customers and match them to insurers, with engineers, product designers and data people who build the online platform. Press coverage names senior hires in product and enterprise broking, and the company says it serves more than 1,000 types of business. Its site says it is growing fast and looking for great people, but it publishes little about daily culture or values, so ask about this at interview. It has won industry awards including Digital Broker and Schemes Broker of the Year.
A broker like Superscript shows the range of jobs in modern insurance without a traditional office-job feel: customer-facing broking, underwriting and insurer relationships, product and design, software engineering, data, operations and marketing.
