About SYNLAB UK & Ireland

SYNLAB UK & Ireland provides pathology and diagnostic testing, the laboratory work that analyses samples such as blood to help diagnose illness. It runs NHS pathology partnerships, including Synnovis, SYNLAB Essex and the Christie Pathology Partnership, as well as private testing services.

Its apprenticeships page describes its focus as "Science for Life, Health and Wellbeing" and says it wants to be the UK's leading laboratory diagnostics organisation. Its careers page says pathology testing is at the heart of modern healthcare.

SYNLAB's UK head office is at Friars Bridge Court, Blackfriars Road, London, according to its careers page. Apprentice stories on its site mention workplaces in London and Essex, and degree study at Staffordshire University. A full list of UK sites was not on the pages we read.

The company says it wants curious, enthusiastic people and that its people are its biggest asset, with leadership programmes and support for innovation. This is its own description.

Apprenticeships are the clearest route in. SYNLAB says it offers a degree-level Healthcare Science Apprenticeship, other science apprenticeships from Level 3 laboratory technician upwards, and non-science apprenticeships in IT, HR, business administration, data and management. Apprentices earn a wage and, it says, spend 20% of working hours on study. Degree costs are covered through the apprenticeship levy.
