One of the UK's largest housebuilders, formed in 2007 from the merger of George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow, with its head office in High Wycombe.
Taylor Wimpey builds and sells more than 10,000 homes a year in the UK, according to its Gradcracker profile, with prices ranging from under £70,000 to over £3 million and homes from apartments to six-bedroom houses. It buys land, gets planning permission, builds the homes and also puts in the roads, drainage and community facilities that go with new neighbourhoods. It also has a small operation in Spain. Its profile says affordable housing made up 23% of completions in 2019, which is a dated figure.
The company describes a "strong culture of doing the right thing" and says it aims to be the land buyer and developer that others prefer to work with. It says it works with local people and communities, builds infrastructure and makes financial contributions to local authorities, so that new homes come with the services people need. We found no formal mission statement on the pages we read, so we have not invented one.
Taylor Wimpey has a long history. George Wimpey began in 1880 as a stone-working partnership in Hammersmith, London, and finished its first housing estate, Greenford Park, in 1928. Taylor Woodrow was founded in 1921 by Frank Taylor at the age of 16, with his uncle Jack Woodrow's name added. During the 1970s Wimpey sold 106,440 homes, making it the UK's largest private housebuilder. The two firms merged on 3 July 2007. The head office is GateHouse in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Wikipedia says there are 24 regional offices across the UK, while Gradcracker says 23 regional businesses, so the number has probably changed over time.
Leadership has included Pete Redfern, chief executive from 2007, and Jennie Daly, who worked her way up from group operations director to chief executive in April 2022. The pages we read give no staff survey results or culture detail beyond the company's own wording about doing the right thing.
A national housebuilder with regional offices employs many kinds of people. Technical staff include site managers, engineers, surveyors, architectural technicians and health and safety advisers. Commercial staff include land buyers, planners, sales advisers and customer service teams, and there are finance, legal, human resources and marketing roles at the head office. Subjects like maths, geography, design technology, business studies and sciences all lead somewhere here. Check the company's website for current vacancies in your region.
