The London-based publisher of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, now owned by the German group Axel Springer.
Telegraph Media Group publishes The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, two long-established British national newspapers, along with their websites and apps. Its coverage includes politics, business, sport, travel, health, culture, technology, fashion and motoring, plus obituaries, a feature the Telegraph is well known for. Through the Chelsea Magazine Company, bought in 2023, the group also publishes specialist magazines such as The English Home, Artists and Illustrators and Classic Boat.
We did not find a formal mission statement for the group. The one strategic idea we found is a "reader first" approach introduced around 2016, aimed at building a direct relationship with paying readers. The group says it passed one million paid subscribers in 2023. Because no mission wording is published in the sources we read, check the Telegraph's own corporate site for how the company describes its purpose today.
The group is based in London. In 1987 it left Fleet Street for Docklands, and from 1991 it was at 1 Canada Square in Canary Wharf. In 2005 it announced a move to new offices next to Victoria station on Buckingham Palace Road, and the group took the name Telegraph Media Group at that time. We could not confirm its current street address from the pages we read. Ownership has changed several times: the Barclay family bought the company in 2004, and in March 2026 Axel Springer agreed to buy it, following a long sale process. The Berry family became involved in its ownership in 1928, and Conrad Black bought it in 1985. Nick Hugh became chief executive in 2016 from Yahoo. These facts are for context only.
A newspaper group needs many different people. Reporters, news editors, sub-editors, picture editors, columnists and sports writers produce the content, while video and audio producers, data and product teams, designers and engineers build the digital side. Subscriptions, marketing, advertising, finance, legal and human resources teams keep the business running. The company has outsourced some production and advertising work, so some of these roles may sit with partner firms.
No staff headcount appears in the sources we read. A good way to learn more is to read the Telegraph regularly and notice the different sections, from Money to Travel, as each is run by its own team. Check the group's official website for up-to-date information on teams and roles.
