A Warwick-based British company that designs, installs and runs communications and control systems for railways, roads, emergency services, defence and the public sector.
Telent describes itself as a business that specialises in running critical national infrastructure effectively. It designs, delivers and supports communications and technology systems for organisations in the UK and Ireland. Wikipedia lists its sectors as rail, traffic, public safety, defence, service providers, enterprise and the public sector, and its customers include Network Rail, National Highways, Transport for London, the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, the RNLI, HM Coastguard and BT. In 2021 it launched a private 5G network service, and in 2026 it signed a deal with the Royal Air Force to run a site coordination service at 244 locations.
The company has a long British lineage. It traces back to the Wireless Telegraph and Signal Company founded by Guglielmo Marconi in 1897, through GEC Telecommunications and Marconi Communications. In 2006, after Ericsson bought most of Marconi's assets, the remaining UK and German services business was renamed Telent. It later won work such as a Network Rail contract to replace old control systems with a nationwide system and, in 2017, a Highways England roadside telecoms contract. We found no formal mission statement, only its description of its work as running critical national infrastructure.
Telent's headquarters is in Warwick. Wikipedia also lists Chorley in Lancashire, Camberley in Surrey and Harbour Exchange in London, and Dublin in Ireland. Its Gradcracker profile says it operates from over 40 sites across the UK and Ireland and runs 24-hour service desks that are all UK-based and staffed by Telent colleagues. The profile gives about 2,400 people and says roughly two thirds work in service delivery, in engineering and service support roles. Wikipedia's figure of about 2,257 is from 2019.
On culture, Telent presents itself as a smaller company that still handles substantial projects, with a strong focus on learning and development and on STEM initiatives. It describes its newer colleagues as being "in good company". These are the company's own claims. The business was acquired by M Group Services in 2025, with Steve Dalton named as Managing Director, but it is still trading under the Telent name.
With so many people in service delivery, many jobs involve keeping systems working. Field engineers install and maintain equipment on railways, roads and at emergency-service sites. Service desk colleagues monitor systems around the clock. Designers and project managers plan new systems, software engineers work on control and communications software, and there are commercial, finance and people teams. If you like trains, transport, emergency services or hands-on engineering, Telent offers a way to work on systems that matter to everyday life.
