A British home, bed linen and fashion brand founded as a mail-order catalogue, selling through UK shops and online.
The White Company is a British brand known for white bed linen, homeware, candles, fragrances and clothing. It also sells children's products under The Little White Company. It sells through shops, concessions, a catalogue and online, and it has a reputation for service and an eye for design.
Founder Chrissie Rucker started the company in 1994 after failing to find well-designed, good-quality white bed linen at a reasonable price. She says her everyday mantra is "to constantly seek to improve". The company emphasises customer service, the digital experience and staying nimble. We did not find a formal written mission or values list on the pages we read.
The business began as a mail-order company with a 12-page catalogue, and its first shop opened on Symons Street in London. Wikipedia says its head office is at Television Centre in London. A 2025 trade article says the company has 74 UK stores; its stores include Harrods, Selfridges and shopping centres such as Westfield London, Bluewater, Liverpool One and Meadowhall. It also has a small number of stores in Ireland and concessions in the US.
Rucker says the board is evenly split between men and women, and about 86% of employees are women. Staff are expected in the head office from Tuesday to Thursday and can work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The company supports The King's Trust, which helps young people into work, with £10 from each Love Candle sold. Fundraising is company-wide, and in "Chrissie's Challenge" store and department teams were each given £50 to raise money. Staff said everybody got involved.
Wikipedia reported about 1,725 employees in 2022. Roles include shop and concession teams, product designers, buyers, visual merchandisers, customer service staff, warehouse and delivery teams, marketing and digital specialists, and head office colleagues. Check its careers pages for what is open now. The White Company is also a certified B Corporation, certified in February 2024, which means an outside body assessed its impact on workers, community, the environment and customers. Its B Corp profile says it is based in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, operates in the UK and Ireland, and that "mindful consumption is at our heart". It describes its aim as durable, responsible products and a lasting, sustainable legacy.
