A London-based media agency that describes itself as the UK's largest independent media agency, founded in 2005.
the7stars is a media agency, which means it works out where and when a brand's adverts should appear and then buys the space. Its services cover media planning and buying, creative strategy and content, partnerships, insight and analytics, and strategic services. Clients over the years include Iceland, Nintendo UK, Deliveroo, Warner Music, Vision Express, People's Postcode Lottery and the Financial Times.
It was founded in London in 2005 by Jenny Biggam, Mark Jarvis and Colin Mills, together with senior managers from Carat UK, to compete with independent media agencies. It joined the IPA, the advertising industry body, in September 2007. Its first clients included So Good and Space NK in 2006, Ministry of Sound in 2007 and a media launch for The Prodigy's album in 2008. It grew from 38 people at its fifth anniversary to 130 at its tenth and more than 200 by 2020. A job-board profile now lists 291 employees. Its stated mission is to "inspire the exceptional and defeat the bad and the boring".
Its head office is at Bush House, 57 Aldwych, London WC2B 4PJ, having moved from Soho to Aldwych around 2015. Its Wikipedia entry describes it as having been funded by private individuals rather than a media network, which is part of why it calls itself independent. It has also built a family of related businesses, including Bountiful Cow, a technology and activation hub, a creative production business called Supernova, and a data collaboration called Bridge. Eden, a 2010 joint venture with the agency adam&eve, and 13minutes, launched in 2021, are also listed as part of its story. In 2016 it held the Go Bigger Fair to bring media owners and brands together. We did not confirm other UK offices.
The agency says it is transparent, collaborative and open to talent from many backgrounds. It says it has appeared on The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list for eleven years in a row and was named Campaign's Best Place to Work in 2020, 2022 and 2023. These are company claims. It has also held staff events such as the Starcademy festival retreat in 2022, which suggests an emphasis on learning and team spirit.
Roles at an agency like this include media planners, buyers, analysts, creative strategists, partnerships and production people. It suits someone curious about what makes people notice an advert. Entry routes are not covered here, so check the7stars' own pages.
