About Tiger Aspect

Tiger Aspect is a UK television production company that makes scripted shows. Its own website says it originates, develops and produces scripted television for a global audience. Past work includes Mr Bean and The Vicar of Dibley, and more recent shows include Peaky Blinders, Domina, Litvinenko, Bad Education and Man Like Mobeen. Wikipedia also credits the company with Billy Elliot and several BAFTA-winning single dramas, such as Omagh and White Girl. Its page lists Three Little Birds as an upcoming series.

Peter Bennett-Jones started Tiger Television in 1988, and the present company was formed in 1993 when it merged with Paul Sommers's Aspect Film & Television. Tiger Aspect says its aim is to make entertaining, thought-provoking and inspiring stories, guided by its enthusiasm for the talent it works with. Its website describes that talent as writers, directors and performers. That is a paraphrase of the page rather than a formal values statement, which we did not find.

Tiger Aspect is based in London. Wikipedia names London as its headquarters, and Lucy Bedford is shown as managing director with Helen Wright as chief operating officer. It has been part of Banijay UK, a subsidiary of Banijay Entertainment, although Wikipedia is inconsistent on exactly when that began and the company's own page does not state it. Its schemes reach beyond London: the website lists programmes in the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East, some of them run with partners.

Culture shows up in the training and diversity work on its website. The Man Like Mobeen Trainee Programme gives paid entry-level production jobs to people from under-represented backgrounds in the West Midlands. WildChild supports social mobility in the arts through writing and directing schemes. It also takes part in the Screen Yorkshire ScriptEd placement for script editors and the North East Screen Comedy Hot House for development producers. These are the company's own descriptions of its work.

A drama company needs a mix of people. Development producers and script editors find and shape ideas, producers and production managers plan and run each shoot, and directors, writers and editors do the creative work. There are also location managers, production coordinators and runners, plus the business affairs and finance team. If you like drama and comedy, writing and the business of making television, this is one of the longest-running names in British television.
