The UK and Ireland sports broadcaster run as a joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery, showing Premier League, Champions League and more.
TNT Sports is a UK sports broadcaster that replaced BT Sport in July 2023. It runs four channels, TNT Sports 1 to 4, and streams through discovery+. Its rights in the UK and Ireland include Premier League games, the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, Premiership Rugby, the Heineken Champions Cup, MotoGP, cricket, UFC, boxing and WWE. The channels carry live events, build-up and analysis programmes, so the business needs studio and outside-broadcast teams as well as rights managers. Since the launch, discovery+ Premium has been the streaming route, priced at £29.99 per month at launch, the same as the former BT Sport Monthly Pass, and existing BT Sport customers received TNT Sports automatically through BT TV, Sky and Virgin Media.
It is a joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). The deal combined BT Sport and Eurosport UK assets and completed on 1 September 2022, with BT and WBD equally represented on the board. We did not find a mission statement for the business; the sources describe it in terms of bringing together live sport for UK and Irish fans.
Its leadership as reported at launch included Andrew Georgiou, President and Managing Director of WBD Sports Europe, who sits on the board and leads the business. The launch line-up of presenters and pundits included Laura Woods, Rio Ferdinand and Ally McCoist. These facts are from 2022 and 2023, so check for changes. The BT and WBD board chair rotates between the two shareholders, and Marc Allera, then chief executive of BT's Consumer division, was the first chairperson.
TNT Sports is reached through BT TV, Sky and Virgin Media, and through discovery+, the UK streaming home for TNT Sports. We did not find a list of UK sites from the sources we read, although the business grew out of BT Sport and Eurosport UK in the UK.
A sports broadcaster employs producers, directors, commentators, researchers, graphics and camera teams, rights and commercial managers, marketers and digital staff. We have not researched careers pages, and we did not confirm headcount or studio addresses, so check TNT Sports and WBD UK sites for current information. WBD Sports Europe, led by Andrew Georgiou, also sits behind the Eurosport brand that TNT Sports replaced in the UK and Ireland.
