A Portsmouth-based full fibre broadband provider, started in 2019 by former Vodafone leaders, that builds its own network in the south of England and serves customers in well over 100 towns and cities.
toob is a full fibre broadband company. It builds its own fibre cables to homes and businesses in parts of southern England and also reaches many more towns by using another company's network, CityFibre, so that more people can sign up. In its own words it is a local full-fibre broadband provider, and in 2026 it said it served over 135,000 customers across more than 130 towns and cities in England and Scotland. toob was ranked 9th in the Sunday Times 100 Tech list for 2026, and 4th the year before.
The company says it is committed to providing exceptional connectivity at great value. When it first appeared in 2019 its plan was to build and run a full fibre network in towns and cities across the UK. It was founded by Nick Parbutt, who is chief executive and was previously a strategy and wholesale director at Vodafone, with a team that included other former Vodafone network leaders. Its first network was built in Southampton in 2019.
toob's head office and customer contact centre are in Portsmouth, in a 7,450 square foot office at Lakeside North Harbour. There is also a contact centre in Stockton, in the North East, which won Contact Centre of the Year (under 250 seats) at the North East Contact Centre Awards in 2025. Its own fibre is mainly around Southampton, Portsmouth, Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet, Frimley, Blackwater, Yateley, Woking and Portchester. In other places customers are served over CityFibre. In September 2025 the company reported connecting its 100,000th customer.
The company's pages are mostly about customers and awards, so we have only a partial picture of culture. It highlights team effort, with Nick Parbutt crediting the hard work and dedication of everyone at toob. It has won customer-voted prizes such as Best Provider in the Midlands, East and South East of England at the 2025 Broadband Genie Awards, which was based on nearly 4,000 customer surveys. It also won SME of the Year at the Central South Business Awards in 2023.
A broadband provider needs people who plan and build networks, engineers who connect homes, and contact centre advisers who answer customers. It also needs marketing, finance, data and project staff. toob runs its own contact centres, so customer service is a large part of the work, and in 2025 Steven Pack from the Stockton office was named Contact Centre Manager of the Year, a sign that support staff can grow into management. The company's website is the place to see which of these roles are open.
