About Tractable

Tractable builds AI that can look at photos and work out how badly something is damaged. After a car accident, for example, a driver can photograph the damage and Tractable's software appraises it, helping an insurer decide on repair or replacement in minutes rather than weeks. The company says its approach can speed up accident recovery by up to ten times, and it is extending the same technology to salvaging car parts and assessing property damage after disasters such as storms and floods.

Tractable was founded in 2014 by Alex Dalyac and Razvan Ranca, and Adrien Cohen joined as a co-founder in 2015. It is a company with strong UK roots; Wikipedia says most of its staff are in the United Kingdom, though it also lists New York as its headquarters, so its exact base is described differently by different sources. Its current chief executive is Venkat Sathyamurthy.

The company says it aims to change how people live and work across industries, by freeing employees' time for higher-value work, improving the customer experience, speeding up repairs and increasing recycling. This is an example of AI doing a very specific job well rather than trying to do everything.

Tractable's customers fall into five groups: insurers, car dealerships, repairers, recyclers, and fleet and rental companies. Partners and customers named on its site include Covéa, Foyer, Nexsyis and Regina Auto Body, and it has announced work with the Japanese insurer Tokio Marine. Wikipedia reports that it was named one of the CB Insights top 100 AI companies in 2020 and 2021.

Tractable describes itself as a fast-moving AI company where people can work on problems that matter, and it has been recognised in workplace awards in the UK in 2021 and 2022.
