A London mobile game studio, founded by former King and Playfish leaders, making story-led puzzle games such as Love and Pies.
Trailmix is a London studio that makes mobile games combining storytelling with free-to-play puzzle play. Its first game is Love and Pies, which its own site says is enjoyed by millions of players around the world and takes an original approach to the puzzle genre. The aim is games that people can enjoy in short sessions but that still have heart, humour and characters worth caring about. Its homepage says: we make games for everyone, and that Trailmix is snackable yet nourishing and so are its games.
The company's mission, in its own words, is to make experiences with richness and depth while remaining accessible, long-lasting and built to fit into your daily life, combining great storytelling with the best in free-to-play mobile. It also wants an environment where talented creatives push each other to new heights. Its values are: we win as one; we stay curious and grow; we decide boldly and own fully; we are resilient by nature; we are kind and direct; and we are powered by our players.
Trailmix was founded in December 2017 by two London-based mobile gaming veterans, Carolin Krenzer, the chief executive, and Tristan. In 2012 they helped set up King's London studio and created Farm Heroes Saga. Carolin was also previously a director of product management at EA's Playfish. The studio started in a co-working space above Camden Market, moved closer to Camden Town, and by January 2019 had grown to a team of eleven. It is now based at Tileyard Studios near Kings Cross, and is backed by the Finnish games company Supercell.
The company says it works in a hybrid way, with the team together in the studio on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. It describes building long-lasting games through empowered teams where people are trusted to do great work together, which echoes Supercell's belief in small, ambitious teams. The sources we found do not give a current headcount. Its recruitment site has shown roles such as game developer, game lead and studio design manager.
If you like puzzle games and storytelling, this is a good example of how a small London team can make a game played around the world. Check the company's own site for its latest news and open roles. Its founders say that what makes the gaming industry great are the fantastic people you meet along the way, and that they want to give talented people the space to create, learn and flourish.
