UK Biobank

A UK charity holding health data and samples from about half a million volunteers for researchers, with apprenticeship, graduate and placement routes.

About UK Biobank

UK Biobank is a large health resource. About half a million volunteers have shared their health information and samples, which approved researchers use to study diseases such as cancer, heart disease and dementia.

It aims to "advance modern medicine and transform everybody's health" and describes its purpose as "enabling scientific discoveries that improve human health".

It is a registered charity and company. Its registered office is Units 1-2 Spectrum Way, Stockport, with imaging centres in Bristol, Newcastle, Reading and Stockport and an Oxford Population Health office. It also lists a London presence. It has around 300 staff.

Its careers page describes the team as welcoming, driven and inclusive and says support continues from your first day. These are the charity's own words.

Its Emerging Talent pages list data and technology experience, imaging (elective placements and a Graduate Radiographer programme), apprenticeships and future laboratory placements and internships. Pay and length are not stated, and it may only have roles when advertised. You can register interest. Past apprenticeship adverts have included an HR apprentice (People Coordinator).
