A UK online retailer behind Very and Littlewoods, with its head office in Speke, Liverpool and distribution sites across the UK.
The Very Group is an online retailer and finance business. Its main brands are Very, which sells fashion, home, electricals and toys, Littlewoods, and Very Exclusive, which focuses on luxury fashion. It also offers flexible payment options through its own financial services business.
The roots go back to Littlewoods, founded in 1923 by John Moores and his brother Cecil as a football pools company. It became a catalogue retailer from 1932. In 2005 the Littlewoods home shopping business merged with Shop Direct, forming what was then the UK's largest home shopping business. The company was renamed Shop Direct in 2008 and became The Very Group around 2019 or 2020. It says it combines "amazing brands with flexible payment options" and is "committed to creating a sustainable future for our business and the communities in which we operate." We did not find a longer mission statement.
The Very Group's website lists UK sites at its Liverpool head office, Skyways House in Speke, a renovated aircraft hangar, a site called Skygate in the East Midlands near Derby, an office in Bolton, a distribution centre in Wrexham and a London office in Covent Garden. A wider history also names large distribution and returns sites in Shaw and Chadderton, near Oldham. There is also an office in Dublin, serving Very Ireland.
At the Liverpool head office, a training and wellbeing facility called the Cube opened in 2016. The company supports a charity partner, the National Literacy Trust, announced in March 2025, and has previously raised funds for the children's reading charity Coram Beanstalk. We did not find a headcount.
Jobs at an online retailer like this include technology and data roles, buying, marketing, customer service, finance and credit, warehouse and logistics, and design. These are descriptions of the kinds of functions it needs. Because Very sells online, the website, app, payments and customer data are central to the business, and its financial services arm adds credit, risk and customer support roles. Its 2024 sales were reported at about 2.1 billion pounds, which makes it one of the larger UK online retailers. The company also says it has a Liverpool wellbeing and training space for colleagues.
