A Basingstoke-based, AIM-listed maker of power cords, cables and connectivity systems for electric vehicles, data centres, medical devices and industrial customers, with a history reaching back to 1892.
Volex describes itself as a manufacturer of integrated, high-performance power and connectivity solutions for mission-critical applications. In simple terms it makes the cables, plugs and connectors that carry power and data inside other companies' products. Its range includes power cords, plugs and connectors, custom wiring harnesses and cable assemblies, electric vehicle charging cables, inlets and adapters, high-speed copper cables used in data centres, and integrated manufacturing services such as circuit board assemblies, box builds and embedded systems.
Volex says it was founded in 1892 as an electrical cable manufacturer, and its own site has a section titled "Our Origins - The Ward and Goldstone Era". Grace's Guide records that Ward and Goldstone, a wiring and electrical accessories business, changed management and name to Volex Group around 1983 and returned to profit. A later profile says Nat Rothschild became chairman in 2015 and the company has since moved towards more complex assemblies for faster-growing markets, with eleven acquisitions between 2018 and early 2026. The Grace's Guide record places the old Ward and Goldstone business in Salford.
Volex's tagline is "Built for complexity. Positioned for growth." It says it works with category-leading customers to combine power and connectivity into the systems they need. Its sustainability framework rests on three pillars: data-led insight, a factory-level approach and group-wide action. We could not find a written list of values on the pages available to us, and the "Volex Story" page that the company site links to was not readable.
Volex plc is registered in England and Wales (company number 00158956) with its registered office at Unit C1 Antura, Bond Close, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG24 8PZ. The group's factories are mainly in Asia, Europe and North America, and the pages we read do not list any other UK sites, so the Basingstoke head office is the only UK location we can confirm. A profile page says more than 12,000 people work for the group worldwide, with Nat Rothschild as executive chairman.
The head office of a manufacturing group like this employs finance, legal, investor relations, sales, supply chain, engineering and sustainability staff, while the factories employ production, test and quality teams. The markets it supplies are electric vehicles, data centres, medical, aerospace and defence, industrial, and consumer electricals, so a role there can mean working with some of the fastest-changing technology. We did not find a culture page, so ask directly about daily life in Basingstoke. Volex's own site is the place to look for current vacancies.
