A genomics research institute on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, which also runs apprenticeships across science and support roles.
The Wellcome Sanger Institute is a genomics research institute. Its scientists read and study DNA to understand health and disease, and it leads large international projects whose results other researchers then build on.
It describes itself as "an ideas factory that imagines, and delivers, scientific discovery" and as "one of the premier centres of genomic discovery and understanding in the world". It also says it wants to share its discoveries and techniques with the next generation of genomics scientists.
The Institute is on the Wellcome Genome Campus, next to the village of Hinxton, about nine miles south of Cambridge (CB10 1SA). We did not find a current headcount on the pages we read.
The Institute says early-career staff get guidance from senior leaders and a voice in shaping its future. That is its own claim, so ask about it at interview.
Sanger runs apprenticeships at Levels 2 to 7 in scientific research, laboratory and scientific operations, and non-scientific areas such as HR, IT and engineering. Its page states a starting salary of £25,878, about 20% protected study time and that Sanger pays for the qualification. Entry requirements are set in each job advert. A data-science degree apprenticeship with Anglia Ruskin University launched in September 2018. Contact apprenticeships@sanger.ac.uk with questions.
