A Buckinghamshire-based mail, parcels and fulfilment company that sorts and delivers business mail, manages parcel deliveries and runs leaflet and sampling campaigns.
Whistl is a UK logistics company that grew out of the postal sector. It sorts bulk and addressed business mail, delivers leaflets and door-drop advertising, manages parcel deliveries for online sellers through its Parcelhub brand, and runs fulfilment warehouses and contact centres. Wikipedia says it handles more than 3.6 billion mail and parcel items a year and has over a million square feet of warehouse space. Its other brands include Posthub for direct mail, Leafletdrop for online leaflet advertising, Relish for product sampling and Ethical Superstore, an online shop for eco-friendly products.
The business started in 1958 as Circular Distributors Limited, a direct marketing firm. It was bought by the Dutch postal group that later became PostNL and was known as TNT Post. It began delivering letters end to end in London in 2012 and rebranded as Whistl in 2014. In 2015 it stopped delivering letters door to door and went back to mail and parcel processing, and later that year a management buyout was completed with PostNL keeping a small share. On its website, Whistl says: "Our mission is to grow by doing a great job", with an emphasis on exceptional service and teamwork across the group and with its delivery partners.
Whistl's head office is in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Wikipedia lists UK sites at Bedford, Belfast, Boldon, Bristol, Glasgow, Lutterworth, Northampton, Paignton, Wellingborough, Wrangaton and Wigan. Its website says operations run from Glasgow to Paignton. A move of its northern operations to Astley Business Park in Wigan is reported in 2026, and Wikipedia also reports that local residents raised concerns about noise and traffic during planning, so it is an example of how a growing logistics site has to work with its neighbours.
Whistl's website describes its people as entrepreneurial, energetic and engaging, and talks about collaboration, "can-do" attitudes and close partnerships with customers. These are the company's own descriptions. It cites quality and environmental standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 27001, Investors in People and an EcoVadis Gold award, which Wikipedia dates to 2025. It has also set a net-zero target for 2045, which has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. Wikipedia reports about 2,400 staff in 2023. The executive chairman is Nick Wells and the chief executive is Ian Keilty.
A business that mixes mail, parcels, marketing and fulfilment employs a wide range of people. Sorting and warehouse operatives, drivers, shift managers and engineers run the sites. Account managers and marketing specialists work with customers on direct-mail and sampling campaigns, and contact centre teams answer questions for other brands. Technology staff build the parcel-management systems behind Parcelhub, and finance, people and sustainability teams support the group. Students who like both numbers and practical operations can find a route into that mix.
