A Warrington-based UK company that plans, designs, builds and maintains mobile masts and other communications infrastructure for operators, utilities and rail.
WHP Telecoms provides end-to-end communications infrastructure services for wireless, wireline and satellite networks. In plain terms, it helps mobile networks get new masts and sites built. According to a trade profile, its services include radio network design, site planning and acquisition, civil, structural and mechanical design, negotiating local regulatory permissions, and building, testing and commissioning. A 2018 report described the firm's business as the planning, design, acquisition, deployment and maintenance of mobile network masts.
Its customers include mobile network operators, electricity distribution companies, local and central government and, more recently, rail. The company says it works with the main wireless equipment vendors and specialist technology providers and is not tied to any one technology, vendor or network philosophy. We did not find a written mission statement. A later report adds that WHP has grown by acquiring design and survey firms, including Blue Clarity, a wireless design company founded in 2013 and based in County Down with an office in Glasgow, which adds in-house design and survey skills.
WHP is headquartered in Warrington. In July 2018 it moved to the first floor of 401 Faraday Street at Birchwood Park, taking about 19,000 square feet for around 190 staff. A later report says the group has seven offices and about 700 people, though that figure is from the press and may have changed. The company's own pages we could reach do not list the other offices, so we cannot name them. Its UK footprint is confirmed by its UK registration (Companies House number 03601208) and by its work with UK operators and utilities.
The one named person in our sources is chief executive Rob Potter, who said in 2018 that the company wanted an office that was practical and supported staff wellbeing, citing the park's amenities and community feel. That is the extent of the culture evidence we found. The firm has grown by joining up smaller specialist companies, which suggests a mix of long-serving specialists and newer colleagues, but that is our observation rather than a company statement.
The roles in this business follow the life of a mast. Radio planners work out where coverage is needed, surveyors and site-acquisition specialists find and agree locations, designers draw up the structures, planning and consents specialists handle permissions, and project and site managers oversee building and testing. Support teams cover finance, health and safety, and people. If you like maps, design, engineering, project work or being outdoors, this is a practical path into mobile networks.
