A London-based food technology company, founded in 2013, whose AI cameras and scales help restaurant, hotel and canteen kitchens see and cut the food they throw away.
Winnow makes technology for commercial kitchens. A camera looks into the bin and scales underneath weigh what is thrown out. The system, called Winnow Vision, recognises the discarded food, gives it a cost and tells the chefs where waste is coming from, so they can change what they order and cook. The company says kitchens using it can cut food waste by more than half. Its customers include hotel chains, contract caterers and IKEA, with names such as Hilton, Accor, Compass Group and ISS appearing on its pages.
Winnow was started in 2013, and Marc Zornes is its founder and chief executive. He has a background that includes the US Green Building Council and McKinsey. The company says its aim is to help chefs run kitchens that are profitable and sustainable at the same time, and the ambition it publishes is to prevent large amounts of food waste every year across the industry. We did not find a formal mission statement. Marc Zornes has said the company's approach is a business-driven way to make a difference, and it took part in London's Circular Economy Week in 2019.
The company is UK-based. A 2019 article listed London as its base, and a business directory in 2026 describes its headquarters as Greater London, England. Other offices named include Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Iowa City and Cluj-Napoca in Romania, so UK staff work in an international team. In 2019 the company reported 120 employees, and a later directory lists 101 to 200. We did not find a street address or the number of staff in the UK. The company says it works in about 80 regions, so a London-based role may involve working with people around the world.
We found little about the company's culture, and the pages read give no values statement. What they do show is a technology company with hardware and software engineers, since a job listing for a hardware engineering manager appeared in search, and with teams that install the equipment in kitchens and work alongside chefs. The company is part of the Unreasonable Group, a network of impact companies, which describes Winnow as sustainability-focused. We have not verified day-to-day working life and the company's own claims about its results are its own.
A technology company like this employs hardware, software and machine learning engineers, data analysts who turn kitchen data into advice, customer success and account managers who help chefs get value, field installers, sales and marketing staff, and finance and operations teams. It can suit people who like both technology and food, and who enjoy working with practical customers such as chefs and catering managers. Check its website for current roles and which office they are based in.
