London flexible workspace and commercial property provider (REIT) · Real Estate & Property

Workspace Group

A London-based property company that lets offices, studios and workshops to small and growing businesses in about 60 locations across the capital.

About Workspace Group

Workspace Group provides space for small and growing businesses in London. It lets offices, studios, light industrial units and workshops, and its website lists about 60 locations across the capital. Its tenants are mostly small and medium-sized businesses, including creative and tech firms and specialist makers. Workspace says it has been pioneering flexible office space in London for over 30 years and describes a community of over 4,000 businesses. Its buildings include Kennington Park, a refurbished 1905 red brick building at 1-3 Brixton Road that was once the headquarters of the General Motor Cab Company and now has offices, studios, meeting rooms, a cafe and a gym.

Wikipedia says the company was founded in 1987 as London Industrial, to buy and manage commercial properties disposed of by the defunct Greater London Council. It listed on the stock market in 1993, took the name Workspace Group in 1997 and became a real estate investment trust (REIT) in 2007, which means a listed company that owns property and passes most of its rental income to shareholders. In the 2000s it concentrated on London and sold industrial estates elsewhere. We did not find a mission statement on the pages we read, so we cannot give one in the company's own words.

Everything Workspace does is in Greater London. Its featured building is Kennington Park, near Oval tube station, and the company also offers an events space for up to 160 people a minute's walk from Moorgate tube station, according to its website. Over 100 meeting rooms are available to book. Wikipedia names Lawrence Hutchings as chief executive and Stephen Hubbard as chairman, though both may have changed. It also notes that an investor called for the company to sell its flexible office portfolio in June 2026, so the business could change.

The company presents its London-based team as experts in what small businesses need, and its website promotes events, wellbeing activities, yoga classes and workshops that bring tenants together. That community focus suggests customer-facing roles are a big part of the business. We did not find an employee count or a people and culture page, so we cannot say more about working life. Its strength is that customers are small businesses, so the people there see many different industries, from design studios to software start-ups, in one working day.

Typical jobs include customer service and community staff in the buildings, lettings and sales teams, property and building managers, maintenance and facilities staff, development and project managers, marketing and events, and finance, legal and sustainability roles. Interests that point this way are business, design, maths, geography and enjoying working with people. Check the company website for current vacancies.
