YardLink

A UK construction supplies platform that lets builders order equipment hire, materials, fuel and waste services from local suppliers in one place.

About YardLink

YardLink is an online marketplace for buying construction supplies. Building firms use it to order equipment hire, bulk materials, fuel and waste management from local suppliers on a single platform, and to see what they have ordered and spent. It is aimed mainly at small and medium-sized contractors, who often spend a lot of time ringing round suppliers. The company says more than 3,000 construction businesses use it, that it has helped deliveries to over 10,000 projects across the UK, and that over 95% of deliveries are within 15 miles of the project. Its supplier network is described by its founder as about 1,000 suppliers. These are company figures from interviews and are undated.

YardLink launched in 2018 and its founder and chief executive is Neeral Shah. His family has worked in construction supply chains for generations. He first provided trade finance for construction buyers and then worked in the strategy team of a fast-growing technology company, and these experiences led to the idea. The platform began with equipment rental and has since widened to other supplies. Mr Shah said the company was set up because supply chain inefficiencies were a big hidden cost for construction businesses. The company's aim is to make construction buying faster and simpler, and it describes its approach as "Simplified, sustainable, seamless".

In the UK, YardLink's website lists location pages for Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester, linked to plant and tool hire. We could not tell from the page whether these are offices or simply areas served, and we did not find a head office address. Its recognition includes ranking 41st in the 2023 Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50, which it reported was based on 753% revenue growth over four years. The company said that its aim was to digitise a part of the industry that had been slow to take up digital tools.

YardLink lists six values: build trust, be bold, be curious, empower others, care deeply and own it. Mr Shah has described the culture as "friendly, transparent and results-oriented". The company describes the team as central to what it does, and in an interview said it planned to double its headcount, though we did not find a current staff number. The company says it combines technology with hands-on customer service.

People at a company like this work in software and data, product design, supplier partnerships and onboarding, customer support, operations, sales, and finance. Some staff will have construction or equipment hire backgrounds, others come from technology or marketplaces. Business, supply chain, computing, maths and construction management all connect to the work, and it is a good example of how technology is changing the way ordinary building jobs get supplied.
