YuLife

A London-based B Corp insurer that rewards employees for healthy habits through workplace life insurance and benefits.

About YuLife

YuLife is an insurance company that tries to make life insurance feel useful while you are still alive. Employers buy cover for their staff, such as life insurance, income protection and critical illness cover (money paid if you become seriously ill). Employees also get an app where they earn points for healthy habits like walking, meditation and cycling. YuLife reports insuring more than 400,000 people at UK companies, which is its own claim.

A 2023 Jewish News profile says YuLife began in 2016 when Sam Fromson, then a community rabbi in Golders Green, met insurance entrepreneur Sammy Rubin at a charity dinner; they talked for about six hours the next day and then wrote a business plan. Fromson is described as co-founder and chief operating officer. The B Corp directory says YuLife is headquartered in the London Borough of Islington and also operates in South Africa and the US, and the profile places its headquarters at Old Street, London.

Its mission is to "inspire life and turn financial products into a force for good", and it says it wants insurance to help people live well, not only pay out after a claim. YuLife has been a certified B Corp since May 2023, scoring 81.7 where the pass mark is 80. A B Corp is a company independently assessed on how it treats staff, communities and the environment. Its highest score area was Workers, which is the assessment's finding, not proof of everyday culture.

The app is game-style: people earn virtual coins called YuCoins for wellbeing activities and can swap them for vouchers from brands such as ASOS, Nike and John Lewis, or for charity donations and tree planting. YuLife also added products such as dental insurance with Bupa. The same 2023 profile said it served over 1,000 businesses, naming Capital One, the Co-op, Sodexo, Land Rover and Tesco. Its website lists the Yu app, YuCoins, group life, income protection and critical illness cover.

The 2023 profile said YuLife had over 230 staff, whom it calls the YuCrew, and used a hybrid model with no required office days. Roles in a company like this span engineering, design, customer support, sales and claims. We did not find a published graduate scheme, internship or apprenticeship, so check YuLife's careers page for current roles.
