A London quick-commerce brand that delivers a premium range of groceries, beauty, gifts and electronics from local dark stores.
Zapp is a rapid-delivery convenience service in London. Customers order through an app or website and items are delivered from small local warehouses, known as dark stores or micro-fulfilment centres, close to where they live. It calls itself the leader in premium online convenience in London, and its catalogue is around 4,000 products across food, beauty, gifting and electronics.
Zapp's public positioning is about premium convenience. A 2023 rebrand brought a new logo, font and colours and the tagline "Elevate Your Everyday". The company says its customers are busy Londoners with little time who want a differentiated range, and it offers round-the-clock delivery. It has also launched Zapp Boutique, a luxury store-within-a-store with brands such as Apple, Daylesford Organic and Dr Barbara Sturm, as well as everyday names like Lindt.
Zapp launched in late 2020 with one dark store in west London and now runs several micro-fulfilment centres across the capital. It was one of the few quick-commerce firms to continue after competitors such as Weezy, Jiffy, Gorillas and Fancy were acquired or closed. In 2024 it opened more London dark stores to cover more of central London. It also runs Zapp Media Services, an advertising business for brands that sell through the app. Its priority is London, and it says it might later bring its model to other large cities.
We did not find a published description of its culture or values. An article from August 2024 said it had about 20 live vacancies, including directors in product, data science and demand forecasting, plus category managers and buyers, and named leaders such as Steve O'Hear (senior vice president of strategy) and Alex Hough (vice president of commercial). Quick commerce relies on teams in buying, product and data, operations, warehouse and delivery, customer service and marketing.
This is a good sector to study if you are curious about how data and logistics shape shopping, because planning what to stock, where, and when is as important as the app. We did not find a company website page about mission or founders, and the evidence we read dates from 2023 and 2024, and the company said in 2024 that it had been operating profitably in London for some time, so check that Zapp is still trading in its current form and read its own site for up-to-date information.
